Stop action
This photo is an example of stop action. This is a photo I took of my girlfriend jumping backwards off of a swing. To get this picture, I used a very fast shutter speed.
Short depth of field
This photo is an example of short depth of field. In this photo, the subject (the skateboard) is the only thing in focus, and the background is out of focus.

Great depth of field
This photo is an example of great depth of field. The subject of this photo is the flower in the center, but the entire photo is in focus. I took this picture by setting the aperture to f22 and slowing down the shutter speed.
Blurred action
This photo is an example of blurred action. For this picture, I took a large rock, tossed it into the creek, and took a picture of the splash the rock made. In order to get this picture I used a slower shutter speed and stepped into the shade so the light meter would be at zero.
